Plot summary:

The sweet high school girl, Sayaka Kudo (played by Kasumi Arimura), doesn’t have a good relationship with her father, who is solely focused on grooming her younger brother for baseball, neglecting his daughters. In Sayaka’s high school, there’s an internal advancement system, which allows her to be admitted by the high school. Consequently, she spends her days having fun with her friends, completely unconcerned about her studies, ending up as the lowest-ranking student in her class.

Her kind, hardworking mother (portrayed by Yō Yoshida) is often reprimanded by the school authorities, deeply anxious about her daughter’s future. Hence, she decides to send Sayaka to a supplementary class run by Mr. Tsubota (played by Junichi Ito). After a skills assessment, it turns out Sayaka is only at the level of a fourth-grade elementary student. However, the cheerful and confident Mr. Tsubota is undeterred. In his unique way, he breaks down Sayaka’s defenses, and soon they become good friends.

With Mr. Tsubota’s help, Sayaka’s attitude towards learning gradually changes. Eventually, she sets her sights on attending Keio University. It’s a true story of an underdog’s incredible
